UBC Knowledge Exchange Podcast: Featuring the UBC Health Mentors Program
We are excited to share that The Knowledge Exchange: A Partnership-in-Action Podcast released a new episode on Monday, December 15—and it highlights one of PCPE’s most beloved initiatives: the UBC Interprofessional Health Mentor Program.
The Knowledge Exchange is founded and hosted by Dr. Barbara Lee, a Knowledge Exchange and Mobilization (KxM) Scholar (2023–2025) in the UBC School of Social Work. The podcast shines a light on inspiring community-engaged partnerships by bringing faculty and community partners together to discuss their shared projects and the real-world impact of knowledge exchange.
For this upcoming episode, PCPE’s Community Engagement Coordinator Mandy Young, long-standing Health Mentor Lelainia Lloyd, and medical student–turned–resident physician Dr. Pooja Kadakia (a two-time mentee in Years 1 and 4 of her program, now a first-year Core Internal Medicine resident at the University of Manitoba) were invited to share their experiences and perspectives.
Together, they reflect on what makes the 15-year-old Health Mentor Program so meaningful for both learners and mentors. The program remains a consistent favourite among students across UBC’s health disciplines, offering an invaluable opportunity to learn directly from patient and caregiver mentors whose lived experience shapes the next generation of healthcare professionals.
This episode offers an honest, heart-centered conversation about partnership, learning, and the transformative power of lived experience in health education.
Tune in to hear the full discussion—and help us celebrate the ongoing impact of partnership-in-action at UBC.
